Health is Worth More Than Gold

Let's start by saying, Congratulations to the Fuller Landau's Cedars CanSupport Dragon Boat Race & Festival! This was a great event that was very well organized. The weather turned out to be ideal and the support we felt from our community was immensely appreciated. We also congratulate 22Dragons for organizing the teams and event operations which were phenomenal and exciting to say the least.

We started out the day reminiscing about our long lost paddler, Lanni who passed away suddenly only two weeks prior. We also took the time to mention Donna, who also passed away only a couple of months ago. Losing two team-mates might have taken a toll on the moral of a team but we collectively agreed to remember the lives well lived of our paddlers who would have preferred we enjoy life to the max.

Our Coach, Caroline said a few kind words of encouragement before our race and lead us to our boat so we could concentrate on paddling our final race of the season. It's always bitter sweet to find ourselves together and realize that this is the last time we will be on the Lachine Canal learning to paddle as a team. We always take a break in October as this is the month of transition between outdoors and indoors seasons.

Our race started at 11:00am which was way better than last year when we started at 8:20am. Not that we complained or anything but it was really nice to hang out with the ladies to catch up on stories and some laughter.

We only had one race to put all our mind, bodies and souls in unison to finally attempt to win first place. We were guaranteed 2nd place since there were only 2 boats in this category. We all agreed to try to win the GOLD. So that's what we did. We beat our best record from last year of 1.04 by shaving off 5 seconds. Great improvement thanks to the dedication of the team to practice and improve each week.

Some of us close to Lanni believed she was was our 22nd paddler. Whether you believe in spirits or not, there is something magical that happens when you sync your minds to perform your best and envision winning first place.
